What is it?

Organic product certification ensures that all production follows specific handling, input, and processing rules, according to the Brazilian Organic Conformity Assessment System, regulated by Law No. 10.831/2003 and Decree No. 6.323/2007.

In this system, the MAPA (Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock) acts as competent authority, responsible for the regulation and supervision of the sector, while the certification bodies are accredited by the Cgcre/Inmetro to perform conformity assessment.

Certification ensures that organic products are obtained through practices that promote Environmental protection, soil conservation, biodiversity, and consumer health.

Sbcert, in partnership with Agricontrol/OIA, offers certifications for domestic and international markets, ensuring that producers and industries meet national standards and those of markets such as the United States, the European Union, Japan, and Argentina.

How does it work?

The organic certification process follows a structured flow of conformity assessment. Some steps may vary depending on the standard or target market, but generally, the process occurs as follows:

  • Service hiring
  • Definition of the scope of certification and the organic standards that will be evaluated (Brazil and/or international markets).
  • Submission and analysis of documentation
  • Filling in the mandatory information on production, management, inputs used, and production processes.
  • Preparation and execution of the audit
  • Audits conducted by a qualified auditor to assess compliance with applicable organic standard requirements.
  • Technical Analysis and Certification Decision
  • The audit results undergo independent technical evaluation. If all requirements are met, certification is granted.
  • Official registration and recognition
  • Depending on the certified standard.
  • Certification maintenance
  • Certification requires periodic follow-up and maintenance audits, according to the rules of each program or regulation.
  • Certification Renewal
  • The continuation of certification occurs through a new evaluation process within the cycle defined by the applicable standard.

  • Organic farming producers
  • Producers of fruits, vegetables, grains, coffee, among others, who wish to produce and market food according to organic legislation.
